We had another fantastic Farm to Table event at Maury this week!
Last spring, the Kindergarten classes planted sweet potatoes in the Maury garden. After many months of sunshine, spring rains and summer watering, we had a nice orange crop! Last week the now First Graders harvested the sweet potatoes and today Ms. Fatima and her staff baked up some delicious bites for our children.
Volunteer parents served small portions of baked sweet potatoes during the lunches and each student was offered a chance to taste the delicious, nutritious vegetable. While a few gave it a thumbs down, many of the children discovered they really loved sweet potatoes, especially ones you grow yourself! Thanks to the cafeteria staff, Ms. Sparrow, Sue Setliff, Jennifer Sorrells and other parents who made this happen.
