The Maury PTA has voted – and approved – a measure creating a new partnership with Cora Kelly Elementary School.
The school – which has the highest free and reduced lunch population in ACPS – is trying to create a PTA for the first time in years, and are, for a variety of reasons, facing a moment when they can sink or soar. These are our kids’ future classmates and friends. We want to help them soar.
Here’s what we’re doing.
– We voted to approve a $2000 cash infusion to start up their newly reformed PTA and support their after school programs, teacher appreciation events, book drives and more. The monetary gift will be drawn from our reserve fund of $15,000 with the hope that future Maury PTAs will similarly support Cora Kelly every year for five years.
– We will also partner with them through our newly created community outreach program. One idea we’d like to pursue is a gently-used book drive where Maury students can collect books for a winter break book drive for Cora Kelly students. Doing this furthers our goal of giving back through increased community outreach and connecting our students with the community outside the Maury doors.
– We will also be partnering with their PTA members, giving them advice and guidance on organizing, setting up afterschool programs, and hosting community events. If you have ideas on how to help, please let us know – we would love to have other Maury parents use their many talents to help the Cora Kelly community.
